Here is a new pneumatic panel featuring SMC components, recently built by ACERO srl in collaboration with its partner company BELLINI srl.
The proposed solution, which was well received by the customer, includes the use of SY5000 series solenoid valves controlled via a PROFINET master unit (EX600) combined with an IO-Link master module, also from the EX600 family.
This configuration significantly reduced wiring time while also simplifying system diagnostics.
Using an IO-Link port to control a pneumatic valve manifold represents a modern, efficient, and highly advantageous solution in the field of industrial automation.
First and foremost, IO-Link enables bidirectional digital communication between the controller and the manifold.
This means that, in addition to sending valve actuation commands, it is also possible to receive real-time status and diagnostic data, improving system visibility and supporting predictive maintenance.
Another key advantage is the simplification of wiring.
With a single IO-Link port and a standard unshielded cable, it is possible to connect an entire manifold, drastically reducing the number of physical connections and installation time.
From a scalability standpoint, IO-Link allows multiple manifolds or additional modules to be managed through a single interface, making the system architecture more flexible and modular.
Finally, the integration of IO-Link makes the manifold compatible with Industry 4.0 principles, enabling data analysis and optimization of production processes.
